About Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is Kenya's fifth most visited park, located in the southern part of the country near the Tanzanian border. The park covers approximately 390 square kilometers and is world-renowned for its large herds of elephants set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The park's unique ecosystem includes the Amboseli swamps fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro, dry savannah plains, and rocky outcrops. Amboseli is particularly famous for offering some of the most spectacular elephant photography in Africa, with Kilimanjaro providing a dramatic backdrop.

Getting to Amboseli
By Road
The journey from Nairobi to Amboseli takes approximately 3-4 hours:
- Nairobi to Amboseli: ~240km (3-4 hours)
- Most roads are tarmac until the last 30km which is gravel
- 4x4 vehicle recommended for the final stretch
The drive offers beautiful views of the Chyulu Hills and the approach to Kilimanjaro.
By Air
Charter flights are available from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Amboseli airstrips:
- Amboseli Airstrip - 45 minute flight from Nairobi
- Ol Tukai Airstrip - 50 minute flight from Nairobi
